The U.K has its fair share of snow and most home owners have a snow shovel of some kind, snow shovels are plastic, metal or electric, although the electric types are less popular than the plastic or metal types.

Some parts of America, Finland, Sweden and Russia are used to heavy snow falls and have their own heavy duty snow methods such as heavy duty snow ploughs to clear roads. Most home owners have a snow plough of some kind in order to keep their properties clear and safe. One of the most likely hazards is falling snow from house roofs especially when the temperatures rise and the snow begins to melt.

In order to use a snow plough properly, you first have to select the correct one and they are all different in their design and usage. Some types of snow shovel are better prepared for moving light snow from paths and patio’s where other varieties are better designed to move heavier snow falls.

Snow is always best removed frequently rather than after prolonged days of heavy snow, moving heavy snow falls that have accumulated over days is when we are more likely to damage and strain certain muscles in the body.

For home owners that have particular back complaints, you should always be careful when scooping and snow shovelling. Moving too much snow in one scoop could well injure and strain the back muscles. Another option is to purchase a snow blower which is incredibly effective at removing excess snow before shovelling can take place to remove more stubborn snow.

Generally the larger the snow shovels the more it will weigh and the more snow it will be able to move. The light weight plastic shovels are lighter than the metal ones and are very effective at moving light coverings of snow.

Many home owners prefer to have both a plastic snow shovel and a metal one for different levels of snow coverage. The plastic snow shovels are also incredibly effective at removing snow from low roofs and car windscreens, they are also very useful for carrying in the car should you need it whilst travelling to work.

There are electric varieties of snow shovels which are great for moving large volumes of light snow and many of the electric varieties have a blower attached for greater ease. The internet is a good place to look for snow shovels and many hardware stores stock a variety of snow shovels. Always look at the length of the snow shovel before you purchase and make sure they are not too long to avoid extra pressure from bending.
