The husky dog safaris in Lapland are a firm favourite because they are fun and a great activity for all the family, even if you have small children. A family of four can have one sledge each with one driver and one adult and two children in the sledge. The guide will show you the commands you need to know and then the safari will begin.
If you have never been on a husky safari before, it is always best to book a short trip which takes about twenty minutes there and back, this way the children will not get too cold and it gives you a chance to get a feel for the sledge. If you enjoy the safari there is then the chance to book a longer trek which can be arranged at any time.
There are usually six dogs pulling the sledge and they are bred to run, they love nothing better than getting out there on the snow and trekking through the picturesque forests of Lapland. There are many competitions held every year where champion dogs and guides will go on very long treks through the forests of Lapland, much longer treks than you or I could imagine.

The husky dogs are obedient working dogs that absolutely adore their guides, they will wait patiently before the trek begins but make them wait too long and the anticipation gets too much and they begin to dance around on their feet in preparation for the long run through the forests.

On the organised trips, the short treks take around 10 minutes to get to the stop off point where you will have refreshments and get the chance to talk to the guide about the husky dog’s daily lives. There is hot berry juice and biscuits that the children will adore and it also gives you the chance to warm up.

The husky farm is open all year round and you can visit at any time although if you do want to take a husky safari, you will certainly need to book. The husky farm is also open in the summer where you will find the husky dogs and puppies at rest. The summer gives the dogs a chance to recover from the busy winter season and they will spend the days lazing around and getting some well earned rest.

The husky safari activity is an ideal family activity that the adults and children will love and if you get the chance whilst on holiday in Lapland, it is certainly an activity you should make the time for.
